Over the past 20 years, Enviu has launched numerous successful ventures that tackle some of the world’s most pressing sustainability challenges.
In India, the organization helps to create innovative circular solutions in the textile industry. In Indonesia and the Netherlands, it tackles plastic pollution and promotes sustainable consumption. In Kenya, it supports ventures that enhance food systems and empower local farmers.
But as Enviu’s impact grew across continents, so did the complexity of its PR communications.
Each regional team communicated in its own way, and soon, inconsistencies began to surface. These differences made it difficult for journalists and stakeholders to get a clear sense of Enviu’s overarching mission.
‘Not always clear what we do’
Enviu’s regular reports made the organization’s impact clear to funders, but the bigger brand narrative was lost to the media and public. Many incredible stories of how the organization’s initiatives transformed the lives of farmers, waste workers, and micro-retailers were slipping through the cracks.
“It wasn’t always clear what Enviu is and what we do,” Rachael Kirui, Enviu’s Communications and PR Officer, told PR.co in an exclusive interview. “Unless journalists already knew about a specific venture, like SokoFresh in Kenya, finding the thread that tied Enviu’s work together was nearly impossible.”
When the new Marketing Manager joined in 2023, he saw an opportunity to centralize and streamline Enviu’s PR efforts. The team began searching for scalable PR solutions for startups and tools that could help unify their brand and communications across all regions. This search led them to PR.co.
Innovative features, fair pricing, and scalability
PR.co’s mix of innovative features and fair pricing made it stand out. The platform also offered capabilities that Enviu’s media monitoring tools and other software simply didn’t cover.
From the start, Rachael and her team could also work hand in hand with PR.co to tailor the tool to Enviu’s unique needs. “We were able to tweak the platform, working with the PR.co team to see what best suited us.”
With team members spanning multiple time zones and languages, Enviu also needed a solution that could keep pace and grow with them. PR.co gave them the scalability they needed.
Beyond serving as the central hub for PR communications, the PR.co-powered newsroom also made it refreshingly simple to consolidate and roll out Enviu’s new branding in March 2025.
A way to create long-term relationships
One of the first major tests came when, in the same month, the organization hosted the King and Queen of the Netherlands in Kenya.
A few years ago, this story may have disappeared into the ether, with no central hub to showcase the coverage or continue the conversation. Now, however, Enviu had a dedicated newsroom to share the news and manage a seamless PR campaign.
“Before PR.co, we’d have this amazing story we’d pitch to journalists, but we wouldn’t have a space where we could showcase it,” Rachael recalls. “The PR.co platform quickly became a way to engage with journalists and create long-term relationships.”
Better workflows, greater visibility
It’s still early days, but the Enviu team has already tapped into several PR.co features:
- They now consolidate media lists from the various regions and send targeted pitches with a single click. With a clear, unified voice, the team is better positioned to influence conversations, shape policy, and attract the right partners and funders.
- Their newsroom integrates seamlessly with their main corporate website. This functionality enables journalists, the public, and other stakeholders to find precisely what they need. At the same time, Enviu has complete control over the narrative.
- The PR.co platform’s localization capabilities allow Enviu to tailor content for journalists in every market, a feature the team continues to explore and refine.
- Enviu also uses PR.co’s curated press list service, which provides carefully researched lists of key journalists tailored to each region. While it’s still too early to measure the full impact, this capability lays the groundwork for even more effective, personalized media outreach in the future.
For Rachael, the most significant benefit has been how much easier it’s become for the team to build strong relationships with media partners and journalists.
“It’s very important to keep journalists in the loop, to engage them, and to educate them. They should feel like you’re a partner in telling impactful stories. PR.co makes this process easy.”
